Most of us know the importance of wearing sunscreen in the summer months to avoid sunburn and damage, but it really should be a year-round preventive health measure. Always wear sunscreen, no matter your skin colour or tone. Let’s see 5 Reasons to Wear Sunscreen Daily.
Why You Should Always Wear Sunscreen, Even on Cloudy Days Up to 80 percent of the sun’s rays can pass through clouds, so if you assume it’s OK to forgo protection on an overcast day, think again.
Sunscreen is an important preventive health care habit that should be maintained all year, including the winter months. Snow can reflect up to 80 percent of ultraviolet (UV) rays, increasing your risk of exposure to sun damage. Also, the higher the altitude, the greater the UV exposure, so sunscreen is crucial for family ski vacations, too. When in doubt always wear sunscreen!
It is all about finding the right sunscreen products for you, your skin, and your routine.
Applying sunscreen daily may seem like an unnecessary step to add to your skincare regimen, especially if you are just going from the car to your office and back again, but it is crucial to maintaining the health of your skin.
The depletion of the ozone layer has increased our risk of sun damage from harmful UV rays. Sunscreen blocks these rays, greatly reducing the likelihood of sunburn. For full body coverage you’ll want to apply about an ounce
Fortunately, sunscreen is very effective in reducing the risk of developing a variety of skin cancers, especially melanoma4. This type of skin cancer is known to be extremely aggressive and can be life-threatening for many women, particularly those in their 20s. However, you must apply sunscreen daily to see the cumulative protection over the days and months. By applying sunscreen each day, you cut your risk of contracting skin cancers in half.
One of the most important benefits of sunscreen is that it protects your skin against the sun’s broad spectrum of harmful UV rays. Sunscreen actually minimizes the penetration of UV rays into the skin and the triggering of a variety of skin disorders. Even the mildest of sunburns can have damaging effects so it is important to protect your skin.
Sun damage from UV rays causes photoaging of the skin, which is characterized by a thick, leathery look; discoloration; and a breakdown of collagen, which contributes to lines, sagging and wrinkles. Studies show that those below age 55 who apply sunscreen regularly have 24 percent less chance of developing these signs of aging than those who don’t.
Sunscreen helps prevent discoloration and dark spots from sun damage, helping you maintain a smoother and more even skin tone. Using sunscreen on your face and body helps to keep your complexion even. Sun damage is one of the many causes of uneven skin tones and daily sun cream helps to prevent those effects.
Did you know the number-one cause of premature aging of the face is ultraviolet exposure? By wearing sunscreen, you are slowing down the development of wrinkles and leathery skin.
When selecting a sunscreen, purchase one with an SPF of 15 or higher. You should also select broad-spectrum, or full-spectrum, sunscreen as it is designed to protect you from both UVA and UVB rays.

I never thought about wearing sunscreen during the day. I rarely go out on weekends and my workplace is nearby. But, my new workplace, which I start in a couple weeks, will have be travel somewhere far and I might have to use sunscreen as I get sunburn a lot.
Yes, I agree with you! I have to use sunscreen on my darker complexion because of vitiligo. I never knew I could use it until I was much older.
I completely agree! I don't ever leave my house without a layer of sunscreen on my face.
Fab tips, thank you for sharing. It's so important! I've recently started wearing sunscreen daily myself, even throughout Winter.

I love sunscreen skin because it protects my sensitive skin for any sunburn and dryness of my skin. Thanks for this advice.
I live in Las Vegas, so sunscreen on EVERY part of the body is a must, even in the colder times of the year. However, I have to be careful because of allergies what I use, and it has to be scent free - which is a pain to find. It is worth it though - blessings!
So true that sunscreen helps with skin tone! Thanks for educating on all of the benefits of sunscreen. I've using the sunscreen I buy for my kiddos because it has fewer chemicals in it.
Thank you for the reminder. I kinda forget to apply sunscreen when I go out. I should make it a point to do so everyday! I don't want to look older than I actually am!
