Hi all..
Peppermint is a member of the mint family, a large group of plants that have been used for thousands of years for their beneficial properties. Peppermint oil is widely used in commercial products like toothpaste and massage oils. Peppermint oil is derived from the peppermint plant a cross between water mint and spearmint that thrives in Europe and North America.
The oil extracted from the herb is pale yellow in color. It has a very minty aroma that is cooling and refreshing. Peppermint oil contains Omega-3 fatty acids, iron, magnesium, calcium, Vitamins A and C, minerals, potassium, manganese and copper.
Peppermint oil is commonly used as flavouring in foods and beverages and as a fragrance in soaps and cosmetics. Peppermint oil also is used for a variety of health conditions and can be taken orally in dietary supplements or topically as a skin cream or ointment.
Peppermint oil has a long history of medicinal uses, practised by many various cultures around the world. Probably the most well-known and widely used is that of peppermint oil as a digestive aid. The powerful organic compounds in this essential oil have a soothing effect on the muscles of the digestive tract, calming muscle spasms, and preventing such maladies as nausea, diarrhea, indigestion, bloating, and flatulence.
Another traditional use of peppermint essential oil is to focus the mind, improve memory, and promote wakefulness without causing the signature nervousness and anxiety associated with other stimulants like caffeine.
Peppermint oil is also well-known for its anti-microbial, anti-fungal, and anti-parasitic qualities and has been widely used throughout history to treat bacterial, fungal, and parasitic infections, both internally and externally.
