Hi all..
It is very important to pick right lipstick shade according to our skin tone. Some shades don’t suit all skin types. Let see How to Pick Right Lipstick for your Skin Tone?
If you too would like to figure out how to pick lipsticks for your skin tone, keep on reading.
How to Pick Right Lipstick for your Skin Tone?
Lip Shape
Before moving on to choosing lipstick according to skin tone is to also consider the shape of your lips.
There are some general rules that apply to certain lip shapes like darker colours making lips look smaller and lighter and brighter colours making lips appear bigger.
So take note of whether you want to accentuate or minimize your lip shape before you start narrowing down lip colours so it won’t be as overwhelming.

Know your Skin Undertone
You can’t learn how to pick lipstick for your skin tone if you don’t get to know your skin’s undertones.
Knowing your undertone is enormously helpful when you’re trying to figure out which lipsticks look best on you.
If you’re unsure of your skin’s undertones, the easiest way is to look at the colour of your veins on your inner wrists in the light.
If they appear bluish, you’re cool and pink undertones and if they appear greenish, you’re warm yellow undertones.
For yellow undertones, stick to warmer colours and for pink undertones, look for shades with blue or purple tones in them.
When not sure, Pick Lipstick Based on Your Skin Tone
Fair Skin Tones
Cool toned gals should go for nude or a soft mocha colour and warm gals should look for nude peach or pale pinks.
I know that there will be times when you’ll want to rock a dark lip and you’ll look amazing.
The great thing about fair skin is that bold reds and deep colours can be a fun way to play up your makeup and can look fantastic. Avoid anything too light or with too much of a yellow undertone so you don’t look washed out.
Dark shades do not really complement your skin, but medium shades will make you look gorgeous. Colours like apricot and corals will look flattering on your skin tone. While, shades of brown and orange will just throw your whole look off.
Warm undertones: Go for peach and coral colours, as they will look absolutely stunning on your lips.
Cool undertones: You should opt for mauve and mocha shades.

Medium Skin Tones/Olive Skin Tones
Olive skin tones are generally neutral, so it’s hard for you to go wrong. Most nude, pink, orange, and red shades are going to look good on olive skin tone. Look at what you are wearing to determine your lip shade. For an outfit with warmer colours, you’d stick to a warmer, bright lipstick.
Choosing lipstick according to skin tone doesn’t have to be a big deal.
With medium skin tones, you have a pretty nice palette of colours to choose from like browns, red, fuchsias, pinks and peaches.
For medium skin with warm undertones, try copper or bronze colours and cool undertones should give pinks and cranberry colours a go.
If you have wheatish complexion, then you can carry off almost any colour confidently. You can easily move your colour palette from brown to peach. However, you should avoid nudes because they will make you look really pale.
Warm undertone: You can opt for bronze, cinnamon and brown colours.
Cool undertone: Shades of pink will suit you the best. Red will also go very well with your complexion. While picking out a darker shade go for cranberry, but avoid tomato red.
Dusky Skin Undertones
Brown and berry shades will look quite flattering on you. Bright orange and pinkish reds are an absolute no-no for your skin tone.
Warm undertones: Subtle brown and berry shades will look great on you.
Cool undertone: Choose from shades like brick red, brownish red and caramel.
- Dark Skin Undertones
When you’re picking the right lipstick for darker complexions, dark reds are sure to make lips look gorgeous.
For darker skin with cooler undertones try wine colour.
For warmer undertones, coppers and bronzes look pretty on your lips.
Deep plums, berries and reds look fantastic. Unless you are going for a retro feel or a statement bright lip, avoid anything too light or pale on the lips — deeper shades look more naturally flattering.
If you have a dark complexion, then you can opt for shades like brown, red and purple. But, always stay clear of orange shades as these can look unflattering on you.
Warm undertone: Shades of copper, brown will look good.
Cool undertone: Those with cool undertones can opt for red and wine colours.

This should be printed and posted anywhere lipstick is sold. I quite often look at some woman and ask myself did they look in the mirror and really look at themselves. It would seem they’re interested in their favourite colour and not accentuating their beauty! Great advice!
Great lip advice!
