Top Benefits of Facial Steaming

Hi all,

We all must have heard what is facial steaming and most of us must be taking facial steam regularly in Salon or at home. So lets see the top benefits of facial steaming in detail below.

Top Benefits of Facial Steaming

Cleanses Pores

Clogged pores are one of the key factors to acne breakouts, and can lead to infection and severe skin irritation. Whether you suffer from acne or have blemish-free skin, one of the best ways to cleanse facial pores is to steam your face. The warm steam causes your face to sweat, which opens the pores and helps soften the surface layer of dead skin cells, releasing dirt that could be the cause of breakouts and would otherwise stay trapped. This is one of the most important benefits of facial steaming.

While this process can help clear up mild acne, those who suffer from severe acne or skin conditions like rosacea should consult a doctor before trying an at home facial steam. Regular steaming keeps the pores open and keeps the natural oils flowing freely. This prevents blockage or grime build-up.

Loosens Blackheads

When steam is applied to the face, it softens blackhead plugs, gently releasing them from follicular openings. steaming your face loosens blackheads making them easier and less painful to release.

Makes you look younger

Get that blood pumping in those veins in your face, it’s the best way to take you back a few years and get you looking like a young teenage again. Facial steaming helps in looking younger and helps in anti-aging.

Sheds dead skin

One of the key benefits of face steaming is that it gives our skin the ability to harness its natural anti-aging properties by shedding dead skin. Dead skin makes you look old and tired so let nature work its magic but you’ve got to give it a little boost now and again.

Kills Bacteria

Regular facial steaming will keep you away from viruses. Steam kills bacteria and also releases any nasal congestion. Facial steaming is really beneficial for people who are prone to cold.  Regular facial steaming is really good for everyone.

Prevents pimples

Facial steaming is the best and only way to get rid of a pimple in a day. Steam your face for 5 minutes and, then apply an ice cube on the pimple. The steam will bring out the pus and the ice will help soothe it and ensure it doesn’t look worse the next day.

Removes trapped Makeup

If you wear makeup everyday you really need to do a face steam regularly, Make up gets trapped in our pores and no matter how good the make up remover you need to get it out. Steaming your face does just that!

Promotes relaxation

Steam has a calming effect on the system, and if you add essential oils or herbs to the water, you now have a soothing, healing aromatherapy session in an at home facial steam.

Increased Circulation

Receptors on the skin alert the brain when the ambient temperature rises. In response to rising temperatures, the body initiates a thermo regulating response. As part of that response, blood vessels in the skin dilate so more blood can flow to the skin to let off heat. In addition to letting off heat, blood delivers oxygen and nutrients to tissue. This increased blood flow in the skin is one of the benefits of using steam on your face.

Let’s see the Instructions to do Facial steaming at home

1 Choose your favourite herb or essential oil

Some great herbs to use include calendula, comfrey, chamomile, and nettle. For dry skin, try adding rose, lavender, or borage. For oily skin, use rosemary, sage, or peppermint.

2 Find a comfortable spot

Find a comfortable place like kitchen o some room where you can sit and tke steam. Then, place a large, fluffy towel and a second small clean towel on the table.  Secure your hair back and away from your face. Cleanse your face and neck with a lightly exfoliating cleanser.

3 Bring 4 to 5 cups of water to a boil in a large pot

Once the water comes to a boil, toss in handful of herbs or your favourite essential oil. Then, reduce the heat to a simmer and cover it. Allow the herbs to simmer for 2-3 minutes, then transfer the pot to your tabletop or transfer the water to a bowl.

4 Drape a thick towel over your head and the pot, creating a tent to capture the steaming herbal water.

Hold your face about 6-8 inches above the water. You can regulate the heat by raising or lowering your head over the water, or you can lift a corner of the towel to let in a little cool air if you need too. Steaming for 5-8 minutes is ideal.

5 Splash your face with lukewarm water

Splash face with lukewarm water before patting your face dry with a clean towel if you’d like. Then apply your favourite moisturizer . You will feel relaxed, soothed and glowing.

Regular steaming promotes healthy skin, is easy to do and feels great. Taking 5 to 10 minutes a week to do this will give your skin clarity, suppleness, and vibrancy.
